KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya Bersatu chief Erwan Mohd Tahir has quit the party and returned to Umno.
He said he left Bersatu because only Umno could uphold and defend Malay privileges, the Federal Constitution and the monarchy.
Erwan said it was the “right time to return” as Umno had successfully ended the political polemics that could threaten the well-being of the people and economic stability of the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Submitting their membership forms together with him were the Bersatu Putrajaya division vice-chief, division secretary, committee members, women and youth leadership and more than 120 division members.
Erwan expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Umno for accepting their applications to join the party.
He added that he gave his full support to Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the ninth prime minister.
“I hope the prime minister takes responsibility for the well-being of the people and the country,” he said after handing over his form to Putrajaya Umno chief Tengku Adnan Mansor.
