SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has ordered that the number of congregants performing Friday prayers be increased in mosques and suraus in the state allowed to hold prayers.
“For example, the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque will allow up to 3,500 congregants compared to 2,000 currently.
“For district mosques, it will be increased to between 700 and 1,000 congregants, depending on the total capacity of the mosques,” the Ruler said in a statement posted on the Selangor royal official Facebook page today.
He said this decision was made after seeing that the daily death statistics in the state had dropped to a single digit.
As at Oct 27, the number of deaths in Selangor totalled 9,581, of which half were Malay Muslims, according to the health ministry.
However, the Ruler strongly reminded congregants to continue being vigilant and always abide by the SOPs issued by the health ministry and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department when performing their prayers.
“We must win and return to normal life. I do not want negligence to be the cause of the rise in Covid-19 cases that may result in the reimposition of the movement control order,” he added.
