4,298 Covid-19 cases, 9 clusters

The health ministry says there were 4,929 recoveries.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 4,298 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the second consecutive day the number of infections has dropped.

Yesterday, 4,896 new Covid-19 cases were recorded, while 5,551 infections were detected the day before.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,658,772.

He said 4,929 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,566,159.

A total of 471 patients remain in intensive care, 378 of whom had been confirmed Covid-19 positive and 93 suspected of being infected.

Meanwhile, 264 patients require respiratory assistance, with 172 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 92 suspected of being positive.

There were 4,275 local infections today, involving 4,125 Malaysians and 150 foreigners, and 24 imported cases.

Of these, only 1.7% of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.

Noor Hisham also said nine clusters were reported today.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, pronounced R-nought) remained at 0.97, with Perlis having the highest R-nought level of 1.16.

This was followed by Labuan (1.00) and Selangor (1.00).

The remaining states and federal territories recorded R-nought levels below 1.00.
