
He added that the state’s wealth would be managed professionally by international investment managers with such a fund.
“The returns would ensure a bright future for many generations to come.
“That is why, if GPS wins (in the Sarawak state elections) tomorrow, I will establish the sovereign wealth fund for the future of our young ones,” he said when launching a youth programme here today.
The sovereign wealth fund was among the pledges in the 34-point manifesto announced by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for the 12th Sarawak elections.
“The state’s economic development plan until 2030 has been specially formulated for today’s youths, who will be the leaders of tomorrow,” said Abang Johari, who is the GPS chairman.
He added the coalition was also putting up many young candidates in this election, including Royston Valentine for the Tellian state seat.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari said apart from diving, swimming and football, Sarawak youths should also shine in e-sports and the performing arts.
He pointed out that the old state legislative assembly building would be turned into a cultural centre, similar to Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur, to boost performing arts and culture activities in the state.
