PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) over the next few days.

He was admitted last Thursday to undergo a full medical check-up and was held over the weekend so that a number of investigations could be carried out.

“The team of doctors treating Mahathir is satisfied with the results of the investigations done over the last few days,” IJN said in a statement today.

“Following this, Mahathir will be ready for discharge in the next few days.”

This is not Mahathir’s first trip to IJN. In 2018 he was treated there for a chest infection, and had also been admitted in 2016 for treatment and observation.

Mahathir, who is 96, suffered a mild heart attack in 2006.

He has also undergone two bypass surgeries, the first at Kuala Lumpur Hospital in 1989 and the second at IJN in 2007.
