PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 20,939 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, up from the 19,090 reported yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,996,361 cases.
He added, however, that of the new infections, only 118 cases (or 0.56% of the total) were cases in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Noor Hisham said 5,807 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,841,271.
Meanwhile, 155 patients remain in intensive care, 86 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 69 suspected of being infected; 80 patients require respiratory assistance, with 37 Covid-19 positive and the remaining 43 suspected of being infected.
There were 20,818 local infections today, involving 20,315 Malaysians and 503 foreigners, and 121 imported cases.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) has increased to 1.51, with Labuan having the highest R0 level of 2.17, followed by Sarawak (1.90), Sabah (1.68), Perlis (1.55) Putrajaya (1.45), Terengganu (1.42), Kedah (1.41), Penang (1.39), Johor and Kelantan (1.36), Pahang (1.30), Selangor (1.29), Negeri Sembilan (1.26), Perak (1.25), Melaka (1.24), and Kuala Lumpur (1.23).
Noor Hisham also said 20 clusters were reported today.
