PETALING JAYA: The suspect in the groping incident at the parking lot of Tamarind Square, Cyberjaya had sexually assaulted five other women in December, the police said today.
Sepang district police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said this was revealed today after the suspect, who was arrested earlier today, confessed to the crimes.
“In December last year, he groped five other people. Three of the victims filed police reports while the other two did not,” he told FMT, without revealing further details.
The suspect, a 20-year-old food delivery rider, was arrested at his home in Puchong today and confessed to groping a woman at Tamarind Square yesterday.
The suspect was alleged to have approached a 27-year-old woman pushing a trolley of items towards her car in the parking lot.
After his offer to “help” the woman was turned down, the suspect went on to grope the victim before running away.
In response to the incident, the Tamarind Square management said it was horrified and appalled by the matter and assured the public that it will work on increasing the security around the premises.
It also said the suspect had sexually assaulted three women at Tamarind Square yesterday alone, though Wan Kamarul did not confirm this.
“We have worked hard to create a safe environment for customers. CCTV coverage has been improved and expanded, particularly in car parks and blind spots.
“More security guards have been deployed to patrol around our premises and the installation of panic buttons at strategic locations as an additional safety measure is currently in progress,” the management said.
