GEORGE TOWN: Police have made an arrest in the shooting of a man in front of his family in Sungai Petani yesterday.
Kedah criminal investigation department chief GS Suresh Kumar said a 36-year-old man was arrested yesterday.
“We don’t want to speculate on the motive of the murder as we are still investigating. We have to probe a little further,” he told FMT.
Suresh said the bullet casings from the shooting yesterday were being analysed.
Murali Shunmugam, 36, of Bukit Selambau, was approached by four men on two motorcycles yesterday, with one of them firing eight shots in the incident in front of a restaurant in Jalan Bakar Arang. He died on the spot.
He had just entered his car while his wife and young son were walking out of the restaurant across the road.
Yesterday, Kedah police chief Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said Murali was wanted by police over suspected organised crime and drug-related activities, with one pending case under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
His death is being probed for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
