PETALING JAYA: The Muda candidate for the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat, Danial Abdul Majeed has come under the spotlight by netizens after two of his tweets from nine years ago resurfaced.
The two tweets – one posted on May 5, 2013, the day of the 13th general election (GE13), and the other the day after – revealed him as having supported Barisan Nasional (BN) in the polls at the time.
The first tweet, in which he attacks the opposition, said: “Kalau PAS bersatu dengan Umno, aman dah Malaysia ni. Ni PAS bersatu dengan DAP yang nak hancurkan Islam dan Melayu. So sad.”
(If PAS worked with Umno, Malaysia would be peaceful. But PAS is working with DAP which wants to destroy Islam and the Malays. So sad).
PAS was a component party of then opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat with PKR and DAP in GE13.
His second tweet, which followed Barisan Nasional’s victory at the polls, said: “Forever and always a voter for Barisan Nasional, Insyaallah”.
The resurfaced tweets drew some strong comments from Malaysians on Twitter.
“@SyedSaddiq should reconsider this candidate. (I) think he will be trashed. (Target) A winnable seat with (the) right candidate,” @jasonbhlee said.
Another user, @RaviChander0670 tweeted: “Just asking will you (Danial) be faithful to Muda?”
Meanwhile, user @lady_bugg11 asked Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman if he checked the background of his party candidates to see if they were qualified to stand in GE15.
However, her tweet drew a response from a former Bersatu leader Rais Hussin who said that Danial’s change of political views should be welcomed.
“If someone does not change after discovering the realities (and) the truth, then it will be a problem.
“(But) In this case he changed his views after unearthing the truth. Baguslah itu (That’s good)! It will only strengthen our quest to dislodge the kleptocrats,” said Rais in his tweet. Rais is currently with PKR.
When contacted by FMT, Danial’s personal assistant said he will respond soon. FMT has also reached out to Syed Saddiq for comment.
