PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied claims that he has resigned as the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and Umno president.
Zahid took to Facebook to deny the rumour after a picture of his purported resignation letter went viral today.
“The letter that has been distributed is fake and is the work of irresponsible parties,” he said.
Zahid has faced calls to resign following BN’s dismal performance in the general election, in which the former ruling coalition only won 30 seats.
It was outperformed by rivals Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional.
Among those who have called for his resignation are Umno leaders Khairy Jamaluddin, Shahril Hamdan, Noh Omar and Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
MIC vice-president C Sivarraajh and MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon have also demanded that Zahid resign.
