SUNGAI BULOH: The father-in-law of a landslide victim in Batang Kali is holding out hope for her survival, despite failing to locate the woman after going from hospital to hospital.
Visibly tired and exasperated, 60-year-old Choo said his son and daughter-in-law had gone camping at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite near Genting Highlands.
His 31-year-old son had already been found to be safe and was being treated at Selayang Hospital, but his daughter-in-law remained unaccounted for.
“I’ve looked in every hospital (housing the landslide victims) but I’ve yet to find her,” Choo told reporters when met at Sungai Buloh Hospital here.
He said a witness had told him that they saw her being ferried into an ambulance, but could not determine if it really was her.
“I went to Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital, Selayang Hospital, now I’m here (at Sungai Buloh Hospital) but I still can’t find him,” he said, adding that he learned of the landslide at 8am today.
He expressed heartache over the tense wait, but was not giving up just yet. Choo said he was continuing his search while staying hopeful of her safe return.
“I’ve been worried sick since this morning,” he added.
So far, 21 people have died in the incident, with 12 others still missing. Search and rescue operations will continue through the night at the site near the Batang Kali-Genting Highlands road.
Editor’s note: This report was updated on Saturday 17 December 2022 to correct the original account which was about Choo’s missing son. It was his daughter-in-law who was missing.
