PETALING JAYA:
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has called for immediate discussions in the Dewan Rakyat on flood mitigation measures.

He said he submitted a motion to the Speaker earlier today regarding the floods in the east coast states of the Peninsula.

“I hope this motion will be debated in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow,” the Muda president said on Facebook.

Syed Saddiq said it was extremely concerning that more than 25,000 households have been affected by floods in five states, adding that the situation was expected to worsen based on warnings issued by the meteorological department.

He proposed that the government declare a national emergency, reduce the red tape on providing disaster relief and provide immediate assistance to victims.

The federal and state governments must also collaborate in providing assistance to victims, he said.

Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor and Perak have been affected by floods.
