Jakel Shah Alam goes up in flames

The Selangor fire and rescue chief says the fire was extinguished in an hour, but the building's interior was completely destroyed.

PETALING JAYA:
A fire broke out at popular textile outlet Jakel Shah Alam this morning, destroying nearly 80% of the three-story building in Section 7, Shah Alam.

Selangor fire and rescue chief Norazam Khamis said an emergency call came in at 7.08am about the incident, with fire and rescue personnel arriving at the scene at 7.19am, Astro Awani reported.

“Upon arriving at the location, we found a fire involving a three-story shop lot that was about 80% ablaze. The building’s interior was destroyed by fire,” he was quoted as saying.

“The fire was extinguished in about an hour.”

Norazam added that there were no injuries reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In a 31-second video posted on Twitter, at least two fire engines were seen outside the three-storey building which was engulfed in flames.
