PETALING JAYA: The government’s undocumented migrants recalibration programme has been extended to maids, says immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud.
According to Bernama, Khairul said this means that the undocumented migrants can be regularised to be hired in a total of eight sectors.
The other seven industries are manufacturing, construction, mining and quarrying, security guards, services, agriculture, and plantations.
Khairul also said employers may start applying to hire migrant workers through the recalibration programme from Jan 27.
Applications will be done online at https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/myimms/main, after which applicants will be given an appointment date.
Khairul said the recalibration fee for each foreign worker is RM1,500 across all sectors.
The recalibration programme will be held until the end of the year. Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had said the conditions under the programme would be more flexible without jeopardising national security.
Up to Dec 31, 2022, the programme saw more than 410,000 undocumented migrants signed up to be regularised as legal foreign workers.
Initially, it was only offered to employers in the construction, manufacturing, plantation, agriculture, and services sectors.
The labour recalibration programme regularises undocumented migrants as foreign workers who could be employed by eligible employers.
The programme also allows undocumented migrants to voluntarily return home if they meet certain conditions set by the authorities.
