KUALA LUMPUR: Johor executive councillor Hairi Mad Shah has won the Umno Youth vice-chief post, says Umno election committee chairman Shahrir Samad.
Shahrir said Hairi obtained 87 votes, beating his closest contestant Ikmal Hazlan Ikmal Hisham by merely three votes.
Hairi is the Larkin assemblyman and state executive councillor for youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources.
“Hairi’s win was only determined at 12pm after the final votes were received,” Shahrir told a press conference at Umno’s headquarters here.
The results for the post of Umno Youth vice-chief was the last to be confirmed after the party’s respective wings held their elections over the weekend.
Last night, Shahrir said the results of the elections for the heads of Umno Youth, Wanita Umno and Puteri Umno could be unofficially determined.
Noraini Ahmad successfully defended her position as Wanita Umno chief against her predecessor, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, while Norliza Abdul Rahim also defended her position as Wanita vice-chief.
Dr Akmal Saleh was elected Umno Youth chief after getting 119 votes against the 50 obtained by his closest challenger, Paya Besar MP and former deputy finance minister Shahar Abdullah.
Nurul Amal Fauzi successfully won the Puteri Umno chief post while Siti Sokhleha Nordin defended her position as the wing’s vice-chief.
