KUALA LUMPUR: Former Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has been appointed a Supreme Council member.
She was appointed by party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Umno Supreme Council meeting today.
Shahrizat had tried to make a comeback as the Wanita chief during last week’s Umno party elections, but lost to incumbent Noraini Ahmad.
She won the Wanita chief’s post in 2009 after defeating Rafidah Aziz, who had held the post from 1999.
The former women, family and community development minister and her family members were also embroiled in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) issue.
Her husband Salleh Ismail, who was NFC chairman, was accused of misappropriating a portion of the RM250 million government loan given to the company.
Besides Shahrizat, Johor Umno deputy chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed, former communications and multimedia deputy minister Jailani Johari, Umno Youth secretary Hasmuni Hassan and Wanita Umno vice-chief Norliza Abdul Rahim were among 13 others who were appointed as Supreme Council members.
