PN MPs stage walkout from Dewan Rakyat

The opposition MPs had demanded that the House debate having a targeted EPF withdrawal scheme.

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal submitted a written motion last Friday urging the Dewan Rakyat to discuss having a targeted EPF withdrawal scheme.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Perikatan Nasional MPs staged a walkout from the Dewan Rakyat today after their demands for a debate on a targeted EPF withdrawal scheme were unsuccessful.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) had asked for an urgent motion on the issue to be entertained, having submitted a written motion on the matter last Friday.

Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) and opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) then stood in support of Wan Fayhsal, saying the matter was of great importance to the people.

Shahidan also said the Speaker would usually take about five days to respond to written motions, while the Dewan Rakyat’s last day of proceedings for this session is tomorrow.

“If this matter is not discussed, we will (PN MPs) walk out in protest,” Hamzah said.

Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Alice Lau then said the opposition MPs were free to leave the hall.

The PN MPs were unhappy that Wan Fayhsal’s motion to debate the EPF withdrawal scheme had been “rejected” by Speaker Johari Abdul.

Lau said Johari had made a ruling on the matter and she could not entertain Wan Fayhsal’s motion.

She urged the opposition bloc to submit another motion to the Speaker or organise a meeting with Johari instead.
