SHAH ALAM: Investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz has been appointed as Selangor Umno’s treasurer.
In a statement, Selangor Umno said its chairman, Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, also appointed Petaling Jaya Umno chief Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim as the state chapter’s secretary, and Bangi Umno chief Zaidi Zain as Selangor information chief.
The appointments were made at the first meeting of the state Umno liaison committee yesterday.
The meeting also agreed that Selangor Umno will continue to support the unity government for the sake of stability.
It also said Selangor Umno will set up a state-level unity government committee to hold joint programmes with the state government.
Selangor Umno said it would continue negotiations with Selangor Pakatan Harapan in determining the distribution of seats for the coming state elections.
The meeting also unanimously agreed to request for Umno’s top leadership to defend former party president Najib Razak, who is serving time in jail, because of his huge contribution to the country, and a memorandum was signed to that effect.
