PETALING JAYA: Kedah Pakatan Harapan chairman Mahfuz Omar said that he plans to seek double the amount of defamation damages which had been awarded against Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor .
Mahfuz said he intend to file an appeal to increase the damages from RM120,000 to RM240,000.
The damages were awarded earlier this month by the Court of Appeal, which raised the RM50,000 damages awarded by the High Court to RM120,000.
Mahfuz had sued Sanusi in 2019, over a post made by Sanusi linking Mahfuz, then MP for Pokok Sena, to the opening of a Sports Toto outlet in the area.
The High Court had upheld the suit and ordered Sanusi to pay damages. His appeal to the Court of Appeal to set aside the High Court decision was dismissed.
Mahfuz said Sanusi has yet to settle the payment, despite the fact that the court ordered the damages be paid within 14 days from the day of the judgement, Sinar Harian reported.
