PETALING JAYA: Selangor police have issued a warning that strict action will be taken against those playing with fireworks after midnight.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said this follows cases of people being injured while playing with fireworks in Gombak and reports of individuals lighting them on the road.
“Lighting fireworks is only allowed in open areas and not in residential areas. No fireworks are allowed after midnight.
“The police will act swiftly upon receiving reports that such activities are taking place, especially after midnight,” he was quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying.
Playing fireworks after midnight is punishable under Section 13 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
Deliberately causing an explosion or storing explosives with the intention of causing danger to life or property is also punishable under Section 7 of the Explosives Act 1957, which provides for seven years’ imprisonment or a fine of RM10,000 or both.
Hussein said residential areas in all districts will be monitored.
