BALING: A 10-year-old boy was found drowned after falling into a river near the Sungai Limau water treatment plant in Kupang here this afternoon.
Baling police chief Shamsudin Mamat said the victim, Yusuf Khairuddin, from Petaling Jaya, had gone to the area at about 11am today for a picnic with his family.
“While the victim’s mother was feeding three other small children by the river, Yusuf apparently wandered away,” he said.
Kedah fire and rescue department public relations officer Abdul Rahim Che Omar said they were alerted about the incident by the Baling police at 1.42pm.
“The victim’s body was located at 4.50pm, about 3km from the location where he was believed to have fallen. The body was then handed over to the police for further action.”
A post-mortem is scheduled to be performed tomorrow at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar.
Shamsudin said the case was also being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which involves exposing a child to physical injury.
