PETALING JAYA: The sister of a student in Kuching who was allegedly punched by her teacher has insisted that the matter has not been amicably settled although the police report has been retracted.
Earlier today, acting Kuching police chief Merbin Lisa was reported as saying that the report lodged yesterday had been retracted, with the issue amicably resolved by both parties.
However, the 14-year-old student’s sister, identified only as Annisa, told FMT that her family retracted the report due to a lack of details.
“So we lodged another (police) report to be used in a report to the Sarawak education department, not for the police to take further action,” she said.
“This matter is not settled.”
Annisa said her family wanted the state education department to investigate the alleged assault as they wanted the teacher to be relieved of his duties.
When asked to elaborate on the second police report, she said: “The report just included details of the incident, whereby she was called by the teacher and when she walked up to him, he punched her in the forehead.”
Annisa said her family sent an email to the state education department this afternoon, but they have yet to receive a reply.
Yesterday, Annisa posted a thread on Twitter stating that her sister was allegedly punched in the face by a teacher for wearing baju Melayu to an Aidilfitri gathering at her school.
FMT has reached out to the education ministry for comment.
