PETALING JAYA: Actor Hafidz Roshdi has been declared of sound mind and fit to stand trial on a charge of hurting his wife, according to a psychiatric report.
The report from Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta, Perak, was prepared at the prosecution’s request after Hafidz’s defence lawyer, Akberdin Abdul Kader, claimed his client suffered from a bipolar disorder.
Deputy public prosecutor Asmaa’ Zamri was informed about the outcome of the psychiatric evaluation at the magistrates’ court in Kuala Kubu Bharu today, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Responding to a request by Akberdin to be furnished with a copy of the report, Asmaa’ confirmed that it will be included in the trial documents to be handed over to the defence.
Magistrates Kafli Che Ali set July 17 for the prosecution to deliver all documents relating to the case to the defence.
On March 13, the magistrates’ court barred Hafidz from interacting with his wife, Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, after he was charged with the offence of voluntarily causing hurt.
The judge also ordered Hafidz to post bail in the sum of RM4,000 and undergo a psychiatric evaluation after the actor pleaded not guilty.
The charge sheet alleged that Hafidz had punched his wife three times near the Sungai Buaya toll plaza at 3.22am on March 2, leaving her with bruises and swelling on her left cheek.
The charge was brought under Section 323 read with Section 326A of the Penal Code. If convicted, Hafidz would be liable to a jail term of up to two years and a maximum fine of RM4,000.
Hafidz was arrested on March 4 at around 12pm and was released on bail the same day.
