PETALING JAYA: Jelutong MP RSN Rayer has been asked by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul to explain his recent statements about former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin.
Rayer confirmed today he had received a letter from Johari about his remarks, in which he linked the leakages in the procurement of ventilators during the Covid-19 pandemic to the emergency declared by then prime minister Muhyiddin.
He has also been asked to explain his call for Mahathir’s “Tun” title to be revoked.
“There is a motion to refer me to the Privileges Committee.
“The motion has been referred to me to give an explanation and, after that, the Speaker will make a decision (whether to refer me to the committee),” Rayer told FMT.
On Tuesday, during the debate on the 2021 Auditor-General’s Report in the Dewan Rakyat, Rayer suggested that Mahathir’s title be withdrawn if the former prime minister continued to disparage the royalty in public.
He also linked Muhyiddin to leakages in the procurement of ventilators during the Covid-19, pandemic, saying the issue could have been debated if Parliament had not been suspended at the time.
Consequently, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) submitted a motion to the Speaker’s office on Wednesday to refer Rayer to the committee.
