PETALING JAYA: Terengganu PKR is ready to support state Umno chief Ahmad Said and make him the “poster boy” for the unity government in the coming state election, as long as the veteran politician is ready to have his photograph displayed next to Anwar Ibrahim’s picture.
Terengganu PKR state committee member Azan Ismail told FMT Anwar will be the “face” of the national level unity government while Ahmad will be the “face” at state level.
“He must be with Anwar – one at the state level and the other at the federal level – as our ‘poster boys’.
“We can’t leave Anwar out. He must be the main ‘poster boy’ in any state election. We will agree if it’s a combination of Anwar and the state’s ‘poster boy’,” he said.
Terengganu Barisan Nasional previously said it wants Ahmad as the unity government’s face in the upcoming state election and will propose him as the menteri besar if it succeeds in conquering Terengganu.
Azan also said six seats have been allocated to Pakatan Harapan while 26 have been given to BN.
“If we look at the unofficial announcement, PH has been given six seats and Umno 26, but it is still being negotiated. I hope we (PH) will get more seats,” he said, adding that BN’s chances of taking over Terengganu are better by cooperating with PH.
Currently, PAS controls 22 state assembly seats while Umno holds 10.
Asked about Ahmad telling PKR off for requesting extra seats in the election, Azan said he believes the Kijal assemblyman is facing a lot of pressure because he has been tasked to take Terengganu from PAS.
“He has been saying that if we can’t take Terengganu in this election, it means that Terengganu will be the second Kelantan,” he said.
He also said PH grassroots have no issues working with BN.
