PETALING JAYA: Sunday has been declared a special public holiday by the state governments of Kelantan and Terengganu in view of the elections tomorrow.
The Kedah state governments said Sunday would be a holiday if the ruling coalition was returned to power, while Selangor said Monday would be a holiday on similar terms.
Caretaker Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the holiday is to make it easier for voters who live in Terengganu but must travel to cast their votes in one of the other five states tomorrow.
“This is also to make it easier for state government staff who will be on duty till late at night tomorrow to assist the Election Commission on polling day,” the menteri besar said in a statement.
Kelantan’s caretaker menteri besar Ahmad Yakob also said the occasional holiday on Sunday was to ease matters for the people of Kelantan as well EC workers.
Working days in Kelantan and Terengganu are from Sunday to Thursday.
