PETALING JAYA: Meranti assemblyman Nassuruddin Daud has been appointed as Kelantan’s 20th menteri besar while Temangan assemblyman Fadzli Hassan will serve as his deputy.
Nassuruddin is a religious scholar and had led the party’s election campaign in Kelantan while Fadzli is a former law academic and ex-legal adviser to a bank.
Nassuruddin takes over the top state post from Ahmad Yakob, who was first appointed to the post in 2013.
Meanwhile, Fadzli replaces PAS vice-president Amar Nik Abdullah as deputy menteri besar.
“We wish both of them all the best in leading the state government toward success,” PAS said in announcing its appointments in a tweet.
Both of them were executive councillors in the outgoing state government and were re-elected at the state assembly elections on Saturday.
Perikatan Nasional won 43 seats in Kelantan in a landslide victory through PAS (37 seats) and Bersatu (six), while the opposition comprises Barisan Nasional through Umno (one) and Pakatan Harapan through Amanah (one).
