GUA MUSANG: A teenage boy was seriously injured after being impaled by a bamboo stick used as a pole for party flags in an accident at Km29 Jalan Gua Musang-Jeli here last night.
Gua Musang police chief Sik Choon Foo said the incident happened when the victim, a Form One student at SMK Tengku Bendahara here, was riding a motorcycle to go fishing at about 9.30pm.
“The victim hit the back of the 4WD vehicle carrying the bamboo poles. The vehicle was parked on the Setelu Island Bridge.
“Due to the impact, a two-metre-long bamboo pole impaled the victim’s abdomen,” he said in a statement.
Sik said the victim was taken to the Gua Musang Hospital for treatment by members of the public.
“Investigations found that the 4WD vehicle was parked on the bridge because the owner was removing flags belonging to political parties.
“Motorists are reminded to be more careful and provide sufficient signals for other users,” he said.
Sik said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
