PETALING JAYA: The Negeri Sembilan government will nominate an Amanah representative for the state assembly Speaker’s post, says menteri besar Aminuddin Harun.
He also said that a PKR man will be nominated for the deputy speaker’s post, Utusan Malaysia reported.
However, he added that no decision has been made on the candidates to fill the posts.
“We will obtain the Yang di-Pertuan Besar’s consent and a vote will be taken when the state assembly convenes on Sept 26 for the assemblymen to be sworn in.
“It must be noted that the Speaker’s post does not have to be filled by an assemblyman,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that he expects the appointments to bring “balance” to the unity government in the state.
The menteri besar said the state assembly will have its first sitting on Oct 9 with the administration to table two bills, including one for additional financial allocations for the year.
Aminuddin said the state government has yet to discuss giving equal allocations to all assemblymen, adding that a decision would only be made in December.
“We will know after the sitting (when the state budget will be debated). The state assembly sitting on Negeri Sembilan’s 2024 budget will be held for a week from Dec 1.”
