PETALING JAYA: Tanah Merah MP Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz is considering taking legal action against a photographer who accused him of vaping in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
Ikmal said his officer would file a report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters later today.
“A media statement will also be issued once the police report has been lodged,” Sinar Harian quoted him as saying.
On Tuesday, a photograph of Ikmal holding a pen-like object to his mouth went viral on social media. It had been uploaded by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s personal photographer.
However, the Perikatan Nasional MP has since denied that he was vaping, and clarified that he had a pen in his mouth.
“Everyone knows that I am not a smoker. I can’t even stand being next to one, what more vaping,” he told FMT.
Meanwhile, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul said he would issue a letter to Ikmal to seek a detailed explanation of the incident.
In 2020, then foreign minister Hishammuddin Hussein was issued a compound notice by the health ministry for smoking an e-cigarette inside the Dewan Rakyat. He apologised for his action.
