PETALING JAYA: Two people have been arrested on suspicion of posting content that is disrespectful to the royal institution.
In a statement, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) director Shuhaily Zain said one suspect was detained in Selangor while the other in Penang.
“A 32-year-old owner of a Facebook account under the name ‘Muhammad Farhan’ was arrested in Gombak, Selangor yesterday.
“The second suspect, a 33-year-old, is believed to be the owner of TikTok account ‘@azwanar90’ and was arrested in Balik Pulau, Penang today,” Shuhaily said.
He added that they were detained under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 for posts that might incite contempt or disloyalty toward the royal institutions.
Shuhaily said the case will be investigated by the classified crime investigation unit at Bukit Aman.
He urged the public to avoid posting content that might affect national harmony and unity, and to always stay clear of commenting on 3R issues, referring to “race, religion and royalty”.
