PETALING JAYA: Bersatu’s Wan Saiful Wan Jan has urged DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng to take legal action against Barisan Nasional (BN) for allegedly publishing campaign material linking DAP members to the late Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Chin Peng.
The former Bersatu information chief said if DAP wished to take action to clear its name, it should do so against BN – its partners in the unity government.
“BN published a book called ‘BN Communications Campaign Material’ prior to the 15th general election (GE15) last year,” the Tasek Gelugor MP said at a press conference in the Parliament building.
“This book proves that the link between DAP and Chin Peng was started by BN.
“If they (DAP leaders) really want to take action and clear their name, then they should not be selective and only act against Siti Mastura Mohamad (of PAS).”
Mastura, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) MP for Kepala Batas, in Penang, was questioned by the Bukit Aman classified crime investigation unit on Tuesday after police reports were lodged over a Nov 4 ceramah in Terengganu, where she alleged that DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and Chin Peng were cousins.
She also claimed that Guan Eng and Kit Siang were cousins to the late Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, and that Seputeh MP Teresa Kok was a cousin of Betty Chew, Guan Eng’s wife.
Mastura, who is the PAS women’s wing deputy chief also alleged that several DAP leaders were blood relations of the Lim family.
Speaking to reporters outside Bukit Aman, the first-term MP confirmed receiving letters of demand from Kit Siang, Guan Eng, Chew and Kok.
She said she had given the reference material on which her speech was based, to the police.
“Whether the material is relevant or not, we leave that to the police to determine,” she said.
However, she did not state whether she was referring to the same material that Wan Saiful brought up today, and neither did he link her to the book during his press conference.
FMT has reached out to BN strategic communications director Ahmad Shabery Cheek for comment.
