PETALING JAYA: The Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election, retired general Raja Affandi Raja Noor says his focus will be on the people in the constituency, not limited to his military background.
“As a representative of the people, it should not be limited solely to military matters just because of my military background,” the former chief of defence forces told a press conference today.
He said he will utilise the campaign period to gather as many issues raised by the voters in Kemaman as possible.
Once he is elected, issues that require immediate attention would be solved within three months, Raja Affandi said.
“During this campaign, I feel it is appropriate for me to focus and listen to what they (voters) express as input for me later, what I can do when I win, what I can do immediately to help them, and respond to what they have been stating all this time. That’s one of my missions,” he said.
The Kemaman by-election on Dec 2 will witness a straight fight between Raja Affandi and PAS’s Terengganu menteri besar, Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
The by-election is being held after a ruling by an election court which nullified Perikatan Nasional’s win in the constituency in last year’s general election over bribery claims.
The seat was won by PAS’s Che Alias Hamid with a majority of 27,170 votes over his nearest rival, former menteri besar Ahmad Said of Umno, who contested on a BN ticket.
