GEORGE TOWN: Barisan Nasional is unaware of a book purportedly produced by its communications unit which claims Lim Kit Siang’s family is related to former communist leader Chin Peng, the Penang state assembly was told today.
Lim Guan Eng (PH-Air Putih) told the assembly that he had spoken to BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan about the document which was supposedly used in the coalition’s 15th general election campaign.
“Tok Mat (Mohamad) said that he has no knowledge about this book,” said Guan Eng, who is also the DAP chairman.
He was responding to a question from opposition leader Fauzi Yusoff (PN-Sungai Dua) on whether the authorities would take action against those who published the book.
The PAS assemblyman also said that Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Mohamad’s claim that the Lims were related to Chin Peng was based on the alleged document.
Siti Mastura came under criticism after claiming that Kit Siang and Guan Eng were related to Chin Peng and Singapore’s founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.
During the exchange in the state assembly, Guan Eng said that both Fauzi and Siti Mastura should be factual in their debates and not resort to slander and personal attacks against his family.
“Is PAS a party that engages in slander?” he added.
On Nov 10, Guan Eng instructed his lawyers to begin criminal proceedings against Siti Mastura for “hate speech”.
Meanwhile, Kit Siang announced yesterday that he would file a lawsuit against the PAS MP for defamation.
The DAP veteran also described Siti Mastura as a “national disgrace” and a “media illiterate” for linking his family to Chin Peng and Lee.
