KUALA LUMPUR: An IT engineer has pleaded not guilty to a charge of insulting Islam over the religion’s position on homosexuality.
Ahmad Feisal Kamil, who claimed trial before the sessions court here, is alleged to have insulted Islam in a Facebook post on Jan 10.
He was charged under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities or network services.
If found guilty, Feisal can be fined up to RM50,000, face a maximum one-year jail term or both.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurilya Ellyna Nor Azmal asked the court to impose a RM20,000 bail against Feisal.
However, Feisal’s lawyer, Sufyan Wafiq Zainal, pleaded for a lower amount as his client is the sole breadwinner for his family.
Judge N Priscilla Hemamalini set bail at RM8,000 with one surety.
She also fixed Dec 5 for next mention.
