PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has told PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to stop trying to insinuate that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government will not last a full term.
Speaking at a ceramah in Kemaman last night, Hadi, the Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman, said the coalition was still trying to woo Umno leaders who opposed the party’s alliance with their one-time rivals in the unity government.
In an interview with FMT, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said such political manoeuvring did not benefit the public.
“The public want to know what leaders can do to help them and what economic opportunities they can provide,” he said.
“They don’t want to hear nonsensical stories about never-ending power struggles.”
Barisan Nasional lynchpin Umno rejected cooperation with Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar and DAP before the 15th general election last November.
However, it decided to join forces with them to form the government, with Anwar as the prime minister, after the election results which led to a hung Parliament.
At last night’s ceramah, Hadi also said Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar was named PN’s candidate for the Dec 2 by-election in Kemaman as part of the coalition’s goal to form the next federal government.
