IPOH: Police have arrested two individuals, believed to be the parents of four siblings found abandoned at the Perak Tengah Administrative Complex in Kampung Gajah last Thursday.
Perak Tengah police chief Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said the two were arrested separately following a report from the Kampung Gajah social welfare department on Nov 23.
“The police arrested the man on Monday and impounded a blue Modenas Kriss motorcycle as well as the clothes the man used during the incident.
“A woman was arrested yesterday and her mobile phone was seized. Both of them have been detained at the Perak Tengah police headquarters to assist further investigations,” he said in a statement.
Hafezul Helmi said the police had opened an investigation paper under Section 33 (a) of the Child Act 2001 due to suspicions that the siblings were left without proper supervision.
He added that the investigation was ongoing, and advised against the spread of fake information or news that could upset the local community.
On Friday, Hafezul Helmi reportedly said that four siblings, including a 10-month-old baby, were believed to have been abandoned in front of a security post at the complex.
He said he was informed of the matter by a district welfare department officer at around 5.39pm.
He said the 10.50am incident involved two boys, aged 11 and three, the 10-month-old baby boy and a six-year-old girl.
He added that based on the evidence, the siblings were believed to have been abandoned by an unknown woman driving a Toyota car.
