The memorandum is aimed at strengthening Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ahead of the next state elections.
In a joint statement, PBS secretary-general Julita Majunki and STAR secretary-general Edward Linggu said a special committee which had been tasked to draft the scope of cooperation held its first meeting today.
“Discussions at the meeting also focused on working out details about how the parties can contribute towards the objective of strengthening GRS,” said the statement.
“Even though the present state government’s term will only end in October 2025, forging understanding between the two parties is necessary as there are signs the 17th state elections could be brought forward to 2024.”
Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Feb 10.
Previously, it was reported that Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor did not rule out the possibility of the Sabah state elections being held earlier.
Apart from PBS and STAR, the other GRS component parties are Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), United Sabah National Organisation (Usno), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
