PETALING JAYA:
A landslide at Taman Wawasan in Puchong has forced 29 residents of nine houses to seek shelter elsewhere.

Serdang police chief A A Anbalagan said the residents were ordered to evacuate as a safety measure against possible further earth movement.

“The 7.30pm incident was reported after heavy rain from 5.45pm to 7.30pm,” Harian Metro reported him as saying in a statement last night.

He said the landslide buried four vehicles, and that no loss of lives had been reported.

“A family of eight has moved to a temporary relief centre at the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) multipurpose hall, while the others are staying with relatives.

“We have set up a control centre at Jalan Wawasan 3/9 and will continue to monitor the location from time to time,” he said.

Besides the police, several other agencies are monitoring the location, including the fire and rescue department, the MBSJ engineering department, the civil defence force, the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor.
