Floods hit Johor, Sabah as evacuee numbers nationwide rise to 28,310

Johor and Sabah have become the latest states to be hit by floods, taking the total to six states, with the number of evacuees as of 6am today rising to 28,310 people compared to 25,938 yesterday evening.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), Kelantan still has the highest number of evacuees at 17,466, placed at 89 temporary relief centres, an increase from the 15,145 victims at 92 centres reported at 4pm yesterday.

In Terengganu, the number of victims fell to 10,103 people at 113 centres from 10,199 evacuees at 125 centres yesterday evening. Pahang also saw a drop in the number of evacuees, with 485 people still at nine centres compared to 590 at 13 centres yesterday.

Selangor has seen no change, with four victims still at the relief centre in Kuala Langat.

In Sabah, 169 victims have been placed at three relief centres, while Johor has 83 evacuees at one relief centre.

Nadma also reported that of the nine relief centres still open in Pahang, one of them in Cameron Highlands continues to house 87 victims from 17 families displaced due to a landslide.

Continuous rain is expected throughout Terengganu in the districts of Dungun and Kemaman; as well as Pahang in Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin; and Johor in Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
