PETALING JAYA:
Faisal Halim returned to football today, starting on the bench as a substitute for Selangor FC in an FA Cup tie at the MBPJ stadium here.

It was his first appearance on the club’s team sheet after suffering fourth-degree burns from an acid attack on May 5.

Bernama reported that the 26-year-old national footballer, wearing a mask to protect the wounds on his face, warmed up with the rest of the team before the match.

The winger received cheers and applause from the thousands of spectators at the venue.

Faisal was discharged from hospital on May 25 after undergoing four surgeries to treat his burns. He said he had at one point considered hanging up his boots as he feared for his safety.

In tonight’s match, Selangor defeated Terengganu 4-1 to enter the FA Cup final. Selangor FC overcame a 3-2 loss in the first leg on July 19 for an aggregate score of 6-4.
