KUALA LUMPUR:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested five men for suspected involvement in bribery to secure a RM15.3 million oil tanker cleaning contract three years ago.

According to a source, those detained comprised a manager of an oil and gas subsidiary, two former employees of the company, and two contractors.

“The suspects, aged between 30 and 63, were detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 8pm yesterday after their statements were recorded,” said a source.

Putrajaya magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin allowed the remand of the manager and two former employees for five days, while the two contractors were remanded for three days, starting from today, following an application by MACC.

MACC senior director (special operations) Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrests when contacted, saying the suspects were being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 for corruption.
