
Sungai Siput police chief Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin said a suspect has since been arrested to facilitate the investigation, which has since been reclassified as one of murder, Berita Harian reported.
Khaizam said the post mortem examination revealed that the victim, Nuraina Humaira Rosli, 10, sustained injuries to her neck and genital parts.
“Police arrested a 17-year old who is related to the victim around 5.30pm yesterday to assist in the probe,” he was quoted as saying.
It was previously reported that Nuraina, who is hearing impaired, was found dead yesterday evening in a swamp near her house at Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu, Sungai Siput.
Her body was discovered following a search by 60 people, including police, firemen, villagers since 7am on Saturday.
She was reported missing on Friday after she failed to return home from playing at a park.
Police will seek a remand order for the suspect tomorrow.
Statements have been taken from villagers and several others, including the parents, will be called to have their statements recorded, Khaizam said.
