PETALING JAYA:
Newly elected Kota Melaka Bersatu chief Hishamuddin Abdul Karim has denied sabotaging the annual general meeting of several branches before his election as the divisional head.

Hishamuddin, who beat Nazim A Samad in the race for the post, said his rival’s claim was a result of his disappointment and dissatisfaction from losing the election.

“Nazim’s actions are common in party elections. However, it is highly irresponsible of him to issue a public statement to the media.

“As the elected head of the division, I will hold a divisional meeting to discuss the matter and send a report to the party, particularly the disciplinary board, to take the necessary action.

“He’s smearing the party’s good name,” he told FMT.

Hishamuddin was elected the Kota Melaka Bersatu chief on Friday after securing 66 votes. Nazim failed to garner a single vote, while another challenger obtained one vote.

Nazim later claimed that there was a plot to sabotage the AGM of several branches, where members selected the delegates who would cast their ballots in the divisional polls.

He sent an official letter of complaint to Melaka Bersatu chief Rahim Thamby Chik on Feb 18 requesting for the Kota Melaka division’s AGM, where the election was held, to be postponed.

The general meetings went ahead and Hishamuddin won the post.

Nazim also claimed that Bersatu Supreme Council member Dr Sahruddin Jamal, who was appointed to manage the AGM of the Kota Melaka division and its branches, failed to carry out his duties.

FMT has reached out to Sahruddin for comment.
