PETALING JAYA:
The government will allocate nearly RM220 million to Parliament next year under the federal budget.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said RM5 million will particularly be earmarked for the Dewan Rakyat and Senate’s special select committees.

In tabling the budget in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar said this was part of the government’s initiative to bolster the functions of the parliamentary committees as a check and balance on federal policies.

He added that RM15 million will be used to expand sustainability programmes developed by the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia in 143 parliamentary constituencies.

He also said a law reform team is studying proposed reforms to various criminal and contract laws, including drafting new bills governing coroners.

He added that the government will amend the Consumer Protection Act to include a lemon law element next year to better protect consumers.
