The Terengganu education department said in a statement today that the education ministry’s integrity unit is handling the case.
“Members of the public with information on any sexual misconduct cases are urged to channel it to the department.
“The state education department will not compromise on any sexual misconduct reported in educational institutions under its purview,” it said, adding that firm action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
The incident follows a similar case in Johor, where a male teacher accused of sexual misconduct involving a 12-year-old pupil was arrested and remanded for six days after the victim’s mother lodged a police report.
In that case, police are investigating allegations that the teacher touched the child inappropriately for sexual purposes.
