3 killed during emergency drill on oil rig off Terengganu-Pahang coast

The three men and another victim, who was injured, were reported to be in an enclosed lifeboat when the cables supporting it snapped.

Three men were killed and another was injured in an accident during an emergency evacuation drill at an oil rig off the Terengganu-Pahang coast this afternoon.

Harian Metro quoted a source as saying the four men were taking part in an emergency evacuation drill in an enclosed lifeboat at about noon when the cables supporting it suddenly snapped.

All four suffered serious injuries and were evacuated by rescue teams to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

“However, three of the victims were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital’s emergency department,” the source said.

The deceased were identified as Faezuan Hakim Bustaman, 28, Ahmad Fikri Zakaria, 38, and Nik Hafifi Asri Ab Majid, 37.

The injured man, Taufik Ruslan, 36, is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
