LABUAN: Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Mutiara here has been temporarily closed for sanitisation after one of its students tested positive for Covid-19, said Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari.

“The student lives in a construction ‘kongsi’ house (squatter house) with more than 40 other people, and he and seven others who live there tested positive,” he told Bernama.

“He went to school several days before we got his result this morning. It is true the school has been closed temporarily for sanitisation.”

He said the student’s parents had tested negative so far.

All teachers from the school also underwent swab tests at the Labuan Co-Curriculum Centre today as part of island-wide Covid-19 testing for teachers, he said.

SMK Mutiara issued a notice to parents this morning, asking them to fetch their children at 9.30am following the school closure.

The teachers have been ordered to undergo a 14-day home quarantine and to conduct online lessons.
