JAKARTA: South Korean cyclist Na Ah-reum won the women’s road race to claim her second Asian Games gold medal in sweltering conditions near Jakarta on Wednesday.
The 2014 time trial champion crossed the line in 2hr 55min 47sec, 80 seconds ahead of China’s Pu Yixian, with Eri Yonamine of Japan third.
Temperatures hit 32 Celsius (90 Fahrenheit) as the riders traversed the 104.4 kilometres (64.9 miles) course east of the capital city.
In Palembang, the Games’ co-host city, Nandinzaya Gankhuyag led a Mongolian one-two in the women’s 50m rifle three positions.
Gankhuyag shot a Games record 458.8 to wrest the title from defending champion and compatriot Narantuya Chuluunbadrakh, while Iran’s Mahlagha Jambozorg took the bronze.
About 17,000 athletes and officials are taking part in the two-week, 40-sport regional Olympics – the biggest sports event in Indonesia’s history.
