NAIROBI: Kenya captain Victor Wanyama is set to return to the national team for next month’s two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Ethiopia.

The 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur star, who has been struggling to shake off a nagging knee injury he picked up in pre-season, was included in a 21-man squad named on Friday named by coach Sébastien Migné.

Wanyama missed Kenya’s 1-0 shock win against Group F leaders Ghana in Nairobi last month but signalled his return to the game when he came off the bench in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Wembley last Saturday.

Migne has also called up South Africa-based defender Brian Mandela, who was suspended against Ghana.

Kenya is scheduled to play Ethiopia in Bahir Dar on October 10, with the return game in Nairobi three days later.

The Harambee Stars are placed second on three points behind leaders Ghana, who also have the same number of points but with a superior goal difference.

Sierra Leone are third and Ethiopia occupy fourth spot.
